Why Michele is participating -
“Almost four years ago, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. As strange as it sounds losing both breasts was the easiest part of my journey, and that was no easy adjustment.
The most difficult part for me has been trying to love my body afterwards and accept the new changes. From five surgeries in eight months, having to pack my wounds due to necrosis for six months, cycling through six medications trying to find one that wasn’t debilitating, trying to accept my scarred up body, adjusting physically and mentally to having to remove both ovaries, wondering if I will love myself again, and questioning if anyone will find me attractive again has been overwhelming.
Having lost so much with breast cancer, I want to take my life back, be strong physically and mentally, and feel confident when I look at my reflection.”
